The Mane Attraction

Much like the way in which Paris shuts some streets to cars on Sundays to allow cyclists and pedestrians a chance to enjoy their city, on the last Saturday of each month Cambridge City Council bans our ubiquitous bicycles from the central area to allow equestrians and pedestrians free rein of that part of the city. As you may know, Newmarket, the historic Home of Racing, is but 15 miles to the east of the city and many owners take the opportunity to run their steeds and put on a spectacle for the children. It's always great fun and is a clue as to why a massive 70% of local residents learn to ride horses once they've mastered their bicycles. Sadly, I could never quite get the hang of it and so stick to two wheels...
